New OctoSquidy Fabrics At Spoonflower

Yup. I’m still obsessed with Spoonflower. Oh how I love that site! This week’s contest was to make 4 coordinating fabrics to be printed together so they fit onto a yard of fabric. I’ve been meaning to make some coordinating fabrics for Tale of Three Squids for a while now so I though this would be a good time to do so. The requirement was for a stripe and a dot fabric, so I paired those with the Squid-de-Lis and a smaller version of the ToTS designs. The fabrics will also be available separately. OctoSquidy Ornament Tutorial

Oh Hello, I am am OctoSquid and I am in a tree!
Now, you might have noticed my recent obsession with Spoonflower, for those of you who haven’t noticed (or haven’t bothered to click the links) Spoonflower is a service that lets you print your own custom fabrics, on demand, with no minimum yardage. It’s a dreamland for crafty types. It also allows designers the opportunity to share and sell their designs with the world.

This is my first ever cut-out-and-sew design, a little winter treat for the fans of OctoSquid. You can get him here by selecting the ‘swatch’ option ($5), shipping is about $2 internationally so he’s pretty affordable.

But once you’ve got him, how do you put him together? Here is, another first for me, a little tutorial…

Exciting New Product!

Eeeeeeeeee!!!!!! Can you tell that I’m hugely excited about this?!?! Three of my designs are now available as print-on-demand fabric!

The examples shown here are in the basic quilting cotton, but it’s also available in canvas, knit, twill, SILK, and pieces start from the 8″ square sample size to as many yards as you’d like. There are only three designs available at the moment, but I’ll be adding more in the run up to the winter holidays.

Check them out on Spoonflower!

Also, the DeviantArt calendars are now set up to print for 2012, if you like to get your calendar buying in early.

And Now For Something Completely Similar…

Oops, wordless Wednesday turned into wordless and pictureless Wednesday. Sorry about that, I was busy being poorly. Summer colds are the worst!

Anyway, today I’m going to be sharing two new sequel images.

First of all, The Artist and The Archeologist, which is a sequel to the Young Adventurers piece. That one was the kiddies, this is the parents. Had a lot of fun with this one, though oddly enough short hair takes about 30 times longer than long hair to do. How strange.

Mr Octosquidy’s Tea Party
by *phantoms-siren on deviantART

And, since its punknic season and steampunks everywhere are heading to their local parks to drink tea and confuse the masses, Mr Octosquidy has decided it’s time for tea. And cupcakes. And cucumber sandwiches. And lie cake.

Flinging Some Art At You, Seeing What Sticks

Considering this is an artist’s blog, I haven’t blogged much about art have I? Well I have several excuses, some of them are even good excuses!

So in order they are –

  1. I can’t actually talk about the main project I’ve been slaving over for the last 2 months.
  2. Portal2 came out on at the end of April and I got a bit obsessed. Plus I’m really slow at computer games.
  3. I’ve injured by right thumb and can’t hold a pen for long.
  4. There was an amazing episode of Doctor Who written by Neil Gaiman and it may have fused by brain.
  5. Have I mentioned Portal 2 yet?
  6. I’ve been working on lots of secret commissions. And this is one of them!

Young Adventurers

Wow, babies are surprisingly hard to draw!!

There has also been a return of the squidy fellow, I don’t know where he found the penny farthing or where he could be going in such a hurry, but I’m most curious about how that hat stays on! Really pleased this got added by the Fancysaurus and Tentacles groups on deviantart, always makes me happy when other people like my work enough to want to feature it.

Speaking of Portal 2 I made this as an experiment in pen control. Due to my hand injuries this was created mostly by holding the pen in my fist rather than with thumb and forefingers. Also used as many workpath tool tricks as I could think of. It’s based on the character of Caroline from the game. You should play it. It’s hilarious.

Similarly this was an experiment following an online tutorial.

Name That Squid

Squidy
by *phantoms-siren on deviantART

This little guy has been turning up in the margins of things recently, staring at me with his squidy eyes, demanding to know why he hasn’t been drawn properly. So here he is. What’s his name? I dunno. Suggestions please?
